THE TEACHERS
Our workshops are led by working artists and photographers who are masters of their craft. They show up with experience, creativity, and a genuine belief in what photography can do for a child. They teach. They challenge. They ignite.

Babita Patel
As a communications strategist and global storyteller, Babita uses story to advance advocacy campaigns, build community, and share impact. As a humanitarian photographer documenting gender, racial, and social justice issues around the world, her work has appeared on ABC, Al Jazeera, BBC, HBO, MSNBC, PBS, and Vice; featured in Forbes, The Guardian, The Marshall Project, The New York Times, Slate, Teen Vogue, and The Washington Post; and exhibited in multiple countries. Babita is the fresh(wo)man author of Breaking Out in Prison, a book about criminal justice reform, systemic racism and community investment. She is currently working on her second book about the criminal justice system and women. Babita lives what she loves.

Birgit Buchart
Birgit is an Austrian-born, NYC-based photographer, with a big passion for film. She was the Marketing Manager and President of the US subsidiary of the analog photography brand Lomography for almost 7 years, before turning freelance as a photographer and content marketing manager. Over the years, she has curated several photography gallery shows, and organized numerous events, workshops, and photo-walks for the film photography community across North America.

Fernando Ruiz
Born and raised in Mexico, Fernando received his first analog camera at a young age and spent much of his teenage years in film development labs. His love for analog photography inspired him to experiment, leading to a passion for double and multiple exposures, primarily blending natural landscapes with portraits. All of his work is created entirely in-camera—he does not use Photoshop.

Madeleine Budd
Maddy works as a freelance documentary photographer, having obtained her BFA from Parsons School of Design, where she worked on her most substantial body of work entitled ”Street Fam”, a portrait series of people who were living a chosen life of violence. The series culminated in a self published book and exhibition at Milk Studios. In 2023, she co-curated the youth component of ”Faces of Harlem“, a four month outdoor exhibition in Harlem celebrating stories made for and by the community.

Along with executive producing Expecting Amy on HBO, he directed comedy specials for Keith Robinson and Jessica Kirson on Netflix, Zainab Johnson on Amazon Prime, and Thank You China for Nimesh Patel on YouTube.
